I was at the concert on Saturday. I was really bummed honestly. I thought his voice sounded great, but he was SO arrogant. He showed no appreciation to the audience, at one point even saying "what I have to say is more important than anything you have to say right now." And his banter was cliched and unoriginal (let's all just get along.) Overall, a big disappointment, and that appeared to be the concensus from where I was sitting. He really needs to learn how to interact with his paying audience better.

He also messed up the words to two of the songs.

I think anonymous (Comment 2) embodies what I'm talking about in my review also posted on this site...

Eddie is arrogant because he's talking about Chicago and Obama and the war and the direction of the country and some stupid drunk fan yells out "Go Cubs!" in the middle of it?? I'm sorry but Eddie Vedder was completely in the right there... This intimate concert was a chance for his "fans" to get to know the real Eddie Vedder..instead they proceeded to get drunk and hoot and holler.. I think he doesn't need to learn how to interact with his paying audience better..I think he needs a new audience!

anonymous second commenter,

what you consider arrogance is actually just advanced intellect. mr. vedder has it. he didn't show up to be told what to play and what not to say. it was a classier affair than you are able to comprehend. i take it you aren't invited to many formal gatherings. my guess is that his talent, charm, intellect, and looks fill you with so much envy. little too intimate of a setting for you? did he make you feel ugly? so you come to this little corner of the internet to let others know how ugly you feel on the inside?

nice try. this solo tour was intended for his more thoughtful fans. the ones who appreciate the man as something more than just the songs he writes and sings.

go over to pearl jam's message pit. the consensus you mention is that there was a small number of assholes who were effective enough to actually force mr. vedder to scold them (graciously, of course). the most interesting and compelling man on stage was ed. not some asshole on his fourth round of heinekens who is desperate to hear footsteps.

your lame and narrow-minded review leads me to believe that you were indeed one of those assholes. and eddie in his charming and subtle let you know about it in front of the rest of us.

I caught the concert on the 17th at the Warner. My impression was Eddie was responding to the drunks that kept yelling and screaming, not the audience as a whole. Way too many drunks at the show and a lot of them were trying to have conversations during the whole show.
